Case Study : Analysing passive design strategy.
OBJECTIVES :
1. to identify and define the principles of heat tranfer in relation to building and people .
2. to understand what is thermal comfort and discuss factors relating to thermal comfort.
3. to analyse the effect of thermal comfort factors in a person and in a space.
4. To be able to criticize design of the space in terms of thermal comfort by referring to MS1525, UBBL and green mark standards.
LEARNING OUTCOMES :
1. Identify enrironmental conditions related to site condition, climate, etc.
2. Explain the effect of the sun on thermal performance of buildings
3. Explain the effect of insulation, thermal mass and air movement on thermal performance of building.
REFLECTION :
Over all i have really enjoyed this project. This subject itself has thought us many ways on how to approach building design and how the site can contribute to the building design and improve the effeciency of the building and reduce the usage of active designs. With this project, it gives us an opportunity to have a hands on understanding of what we have gained through lectures, allowing us to understand the situation easier as we get to actually analyse real life situation by using softwares recomended. By using these softwares such as Revit, Ecotect and Vasari, life is made easier. Although learning these softwares at first is hard but things gets easier when we get familiar with it, also learning these softwares now allow us to make use of these softwares in the furture of design studios.
